An electric perimeter fence surrounds the retirement Village, with biometric access control at both entrance and exit gates. Surveillance cameras are positioned in the complex and live surveillance footage is accessible to all residents on the internet. The voip telephone system doubles up as an intercom, enabling residents to communicate with anyone requesting access. The telephone system also allows residents to make free calls to each other as well as Village personnel.
In the event of an emergency, a resident is able to summon help by activating their Personal Emergency Management System (P.E.M.S.) device. On activation, the P.E.M.S. device automatically notifies Village personnel and next of kin of an emergency situation via SMS. Thanks to the GPS chip contained in the P.E.M.S. device, the emergency SMS provides the geographic location of the person who activated the device, speeding up emergency response time.
